Where does the name Slay Spoon come from?
When I guided canoe trips in Minnesota and Canada I worked with some extremely passionate and enthusiastic anglers. At some point someone started to call fishing "slaying". "Did you slay?" means "did you catch any fish?". On day two of a 21 day canoe trip in Ontario I realized that I tragically left my fishing rod in the trailer, so I teamed up with the kids I was guiding to make a fishing rod out of two small saplings, wire rings, and duct tape. We caught a bunch of fish with the crude rod so we decided to call it "The Slay Stick". Now we have Slay Spoons!
Why are Slay Spoons better than other spoons and tackle?
There are some great fishing lures out there. But after nearly two decades of trial and error I found that the exact color, size, hook, and style combination of the Slay Spoon works better than anything else. It is the only fishing lure I use.
Can I buy Slay Spoons at fishing shops?
Not yet. Right now we only sell online but we are planning on working with shops as soon as possible. If you are a buyer for a store and are interested in carrying Slay Spoons please send us an email.
What is your return policy?
Our return policy lasts for 50 days after your purchase. If 50 days have gone by since your purchase, unfortunately we can’t offer you a refund or exchange. To be eligible for a return, your item must be unused and in the same condition that you received it. It must also be in the original packaging. To complete your return, we require a receipt or proof of purchase. Once your return is received and inspected, we will send you an email to notify you that we have received your returned item. If you are approved, then your refund will be processed, and a credit will automatically be applied to your credit card or original method of payment.
Exchanges
If you need to exchange your item send us an email at nick@slayspoons.com and send your item along with a note about replacement to: PO Box 12492, Jackson WY, 83002.
Shipping
To return your product, you should mail your product via USPS to: PO Box 12492 Jackson Wyoming US 83002. You will be responsible for paying for your own shipping costs for returning your item. Shipping costs are non-refundable. If you are shipping an item over $75, you should consider using a trackable shipping service or purchasing shipping insurance. We can not guarantee that we will receive your returned item.
What is this warning on the packaging all about?
You will see this warning on pretty much every other fishing lure, rod, and most components. This warning is present because of California Proposition 65, which requires businesses to notify Californians about significant or even trace amounts of chemicals in the products they purchase. This list has over 800 chemicals including the material brass, which the body our spoons are made out of. None of our components are made out of lead. I personally assemble every lure by hand.
