Our Story

"Slay" (verb): To catch fish.

"Spoon" (noun): A fishing lure that resembles a spoon.

 Nick Prevot, Founder

I started Slay Spoons because I want to share this awesome fishing lure with other anglers and help more people get hooked on fishing.

While working as a wilderness canoe trip guide I started to crudely paint, assemble, and test different custom made lures.  After thousands of casts in the US and Canada I found that this particular combination of green and black on a polished hex-brass spoon worked better than anything else.

Slay Spoons also offers a better way to choose and purchase fishing lures.  The classic way many of us buy fishing lures is like gambling.  We stare at a shelf with dozens of lures of wildly different colors, sizes, and styles and ask ourselves "hmm, would I eat that if I were a fish?".  Then we buy a bunch of different lures hoping that some of them will work.  Sure enough most of them only catch sticks and one or two occasionally land fish.  Then a big fish hits that one good lure you've had forever, breaks the line, and the slaying is over.

The Slay Spoon is the solution to this waste of time and money.  Slay Spoons does not make a whole bunch of different colors and styles of lures; we just make the green and gold Slay Spoon because it seems to work better than anything else.  The Small Slay Spoon is great for ponds and little rivers while the Original Slay Spoon is awesome for lakes or anywhere the fish are longer than about 12 inches.

Every Slay Spoon is made in the United States and hand assembled by me when you place your order.   Even the little parts like the split rings, Eagle Claw treble hooks, and packaging are made in the US.
